The Veil of Worth

“Why, even the hairs on your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

*I encourage you to read Romans 8:31-39 for a more thorough understanding of this veil.

Consumed with worth

Several years ago the area of self-worth consumed my thoughts. I still have to pray through moments when I devalue myself. I had a wonderful but short career as a teacher. I loved the job, boss, colleagues, students and parents. It was a blessed opportunity. I knew, however, God had different plans for our future.

I looked forward to the time when Zach and I could commit working hours to encouraging others in their pursuit of God. The day finally came and we made the switch. What I did not anticipate was how drastically life would change. With change in profession came the news of expecting our first child. A work opportunity sent us into a Muslim country overseas. Coming from an environment where I was valued by others, I had almost become invisible. We were in the job I always wanted but the new reality did not fit my ideal or dream world. The work pushed out false values about life.

A feeling of worthlessness

Even though I have a great life, wonderful husband and awesome kids, there are times when I feel totally worthless, lonely and demeaned. No one makes me feel this way. I cover myself in a veil of worthlessness, a miserable feeling filled with negative emotions. When I recognize the feelings of worthlessness rising, I take those feelings to God in prayer.

How is worth measured

Sometimes you have to honestly examine your self-worth, which will not always measure up to world standards. Remind yourself and listen to the Lord telling you that your worth is based upon God.

In Him you have worth because He loves you.

Apart from His purpose life is worthless.

The unveiling

Jesus gave his life for you. His LIFE! See the value of His death and resurrection and share His story with the world. By doing this you bring worth to His life, death and resurrection. Look at yourself through his eyes and measure your worth by His value system. He demonstrated that you have great worth to Him. Unveil worthlessness by seeing yourself through His eyes.
