The Veil of Success

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:8-9

Biblical success

Jesus is our example. How successful was His life and career on earth? It was short lived, poverty stricken and ended with death as a convict. How many can honestly say they have made His model their own success story?

Joseph in Egypt also models success. His rebound from slavery and imprisonment to Egypt’s Secretary of State shows another model of success.

Measuring success

In a moment of honest self evaluation, do you see yourself successful? In what area do you find and claim success? If you think you are successful, do you believe you are successfully fulfilling God’s plan?

Do you tend to look at Joseph’s success story and strive for that outcome rather than focus on Jesus? Look closer at Joseph. He faced several hardships that molded him into a man God could use at the appropriate time.

A firm foundation

Our interpretation of success can create disillusionment. People want the end result and special perks, skipping the foundational process that produces great outcomes. I appreciate the illustration of a house. If the foundation is laid well a wonderful home can be built that can withstand the test of time. The hardships faced, the unseen tasks being done go largely unnoticed but are noticed by God. He judges the foundation and determines what your foundation can withstand.

Your success is determined by Him.”

He wants your success to be used for His kingdom’s purposes and for His glory.

Living differently

The cross is not the end of a typical success story. Jesus does not ask you to live typically. You can live your own dreams and fulfill your own story, or you can look to Jesus and realize His is not a normal plan. He will bless you speechless but His blessings point to the Father and cause those around you to recognize your faith is in Him.

The unveiling

Prayerfully, ask God to remove the veil of success and illuminate the Master’s plan for your life.
