The Veil of Religion

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12

*I encourage you to read all of 1 Corinthians 12 for a more thorough understanding of this veil.

Jesus as Lord

I grew up attending church. The type of church is purposely omitted because preconceived notions come when names and denominations are attached.  I was taught doctrine and theology yet learning must go beyond bylaws, rituals and ceremonies.

God loves the church, known as the body of Christ. The church represents people who believe in Jesus and are surrendered to His Lordship.  That’s right, Lordship. Master, if you will. He calls the shots!  If you simply attend church, following the culture and rituals of a local congregation, you are missing the divine intent. You are to believe in Jesus, surrender to Him and develop a growing relationship with Him. In a two way relationship, you start to recognize your intended purpose in the body of Christ.

The body of Christ

First Corinthians 12 mentions the human body being made up of many parts, serving varied purposes, and the church is composed of many members, making the body of Christ functional and purposeful.

Where do you belong?

The chapter addresses a heart concern. Some want to be the head. A few want to be the arm. Not many want to be the foot. All are critical and important, although some get little attention, recognition and visibility. Find God’s intended purpose for your life.

The veil of religion allows you to go through rituals without addressing purpose and meaning. The point is that you were created in Christ Jesus to live out what God desires for you. He is the Lord and Master of your life and future.

The challenge

Take a moment to contemplate the religious veil. Are you living a surrendered life? Is Christ in charge? Was He once in charge but you have taken over? Are you a part of a church but not reflecting faith in God?  Religion could be veiling your life and consuming your potential to serve in His plan.
