Thankful for Life

The spirit of Thanksgiving

A thanksgiving tradition for my family was to go around the table and talk about what you were thankful for the past year. It is one of the more meaningful memories I have from growing up. And so, this year, I’ll share my thanks with my blog readers.

Thankful for God

I’m thankful that God was willing to send his Son, Jesus, to defeat the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) and bridge the gap between me and a holy God (John 3:16).

I’m thankful that Jesus is the author and finisher of my faith (Heb 12:2).

I’m thankful that the Holy Spirit came as a comforter (Acts 9:31) and motivator (Acts 1:8) to change the world.

Thankful for Shellie

I’m thankful for my wife of 12 years. The mother of my children, my best friend, and confidant. She is the best coffee conversationalist I know with a heart the size of Texas.

Grateful for her willingness to chase after God with all her heart and follow His leading in our lives.

Thankful for our kids

Early on, we weren’t sure we would be able to have children. 3 fun-filled, crazy little people later, we have a house full of laughter and occasional sleepless nights.

I am thankful for our oldest son Nate and his heart to love God and love people. He never turns down a handshake or opportunity to play with others.

I’m thankful for our daughter Haley and her funny personality. Her dancing around the house always brings a smile.

I’m also thankful for our young Lucas. Our little “squeaker” is a gem and he already has a wonderful smile.

Thankful for family

I’m thankful for a family that loves God. For a dad that led by example in daily reading the bible and spending time in prayer. His 4am “abiding” times have encouraged me to do the same.

I’m thankful for a mom willing to devote her life to raising 4 kids. She was happy to make a great home for her family and create an environment where we could thrive and grow. Her early morning prayer times were also impactful.

I’m also grateful for my 2 older sisters and younger brother. We have many fun memories and still have a great time when we get together. Thankful for their spouses and children and the way they have enriched our lives.

They all love Jesus and desire to see Him made famous in the world.

Thankful for friends

I’m thankful for friends around the world who have surpassed superficial relationships and taught us to live deep within our hearts.

Thankful for work

I’m thankful to have a job when so many people struggle to find work, especially meaningful work. I’m grateful to work with great people and to serve our community in East Jerusalem by leading Jerusalem School.

Living a life of Thanksgiving

God calls us to live a life of thanksgiving. 2 Corinthians 2:14 states, “But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.”

The challenge

Let us be thankful for the way God leads our lives. May we dedicate ourselves to be a sweet fragrance of Him everywhere we go.
