If God Wills

Planning for an unpromised future

Where we live people have an “Inshallah” mentality. The word means, “If God wills!” The belief has several different effects on life. One relates to making future plans.

Buy only what you need for the day

We recently picked up a prescription from the pharmacy. The medicine is to be taken for several months. Shellie asked the pharmacist to fill the prescription and was only given a two weeks supply. She was informed to come back in two weeks for more, not because the medicine was not in stock, but rather no one knows if it will still be needed by then.

What about tomorrow?

Where we live people do not assume tomorrow is guaranteed. They usually buy the groceries for a day and buy medicine needed at that moment. They rarely make preparations for the future.

What does Jesus think?

Luke records a parable where Jesus talks about making plans.

Luke 12:16-21

“A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!” ’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

Rich with God

The parable does not infer you should not plan, but does say what should get top priority – a rich relationship with God. When making plans, be sensitive to God and His will.

God’s desire

You are an eternal being meant to have a relationship with the living God. Busily pursuing wealth and menial things robs you of eternal living.

The challenge

Live your life focused on eternity. Place God in the center of your plans. Experience true riches!
